This degree is awarded by Sheffi eld Hallam University. The Foundation Degree in Performing Arts: Drama is designed to give learners skills relating to their chosen career pathway within the performing arts industry. Vocational training is underpinned with academic learning that will provide the skills and knowledge needed for a career in the entertainment/ performing arts sector. Modules to be covered You will study modules including: • Skills for the Workplace- Develop the skills to work within the industry. • Performing Arts in the 20th Century- An opportunity to study the relationship between society and the arts. • Practitioner Skills- Exploring principles of acting through Stanisvlaski, Sanford Meisner and Strasberg among others. • Performance Skills- Contemporary Theatre from Page to Stage- Utilising skills developed in Practitioner Skills. • Community Arts Theory and Practice - Explore the role of community theatre and develop your own workshop. • Research and Analysis in the Performing Arts- Investigate an arts subject of your choice and present your fi ndings. • Advanced Practitioner Skills- Further develop your acting skills. • Advanced Performance Skills- Further develop your performance skills. • Negotiated Placement- Undertake work based learning in a performing arts sector negotiated with your tutor. Entry requirements National Diploma or the equivalent in A Levels as well as GCSE English and GCSE Maths grade D or Level 2 Application of Number and Communication. International learners should have English Language or IELTS score of 5- 5 minimum. Applications are also welcome through APL/ APEL routes for those with signifi cant and relevant experience. Candidates will be interviewed and auditioned for entry. Those wishing to pursue a technical pathway must produce a portfolio of work they have completed. Assessment Methods There is ongoing assessment throughout the course using written and practical assignments. The College has its own studio theatre which is equipped to a high specifi cation and regular performances take place before a range of audiences including the general public. Foundation Degree students form part of the senior team of performers, artistes and technical teams and are involved in many of the College's productions. Employment opportunities This programme provides graduates with the opportunity to gain employment in the performing arts industry. Qualifi cations at this level will greatly enhance career prospects and opportunities. Alternatively, you may wish to continue your studies by topping this qualifi cation up to a BA ( Hons) degree at Sheffi eld Hallam University.
