HNC in Business The HNC in Business develops the knowledge and skills to work successfully in today's complex world of business. It is an ideal course for those who wish to obtain a nationally recognised and broadly- based business qualifi cation. The course focuses on developing practical skills and business understanding alongside academic knowledge. You will study subjects including marketing, business strategy, fi nance and organisational behaviour. As well as building broad based business knowledge, you can choose optional units to investigate and pursue specialist interests. The course is offered on a part- time basis. Units to be covered You will study ten units including the following six core units: • Marketing • Business Environment • Organisations and Behaviour • Managing Financial Resources and Decisions • Business Strategy • Research Project For your four optional units you can choose from the following subjects: • Human Resource Management • Employee Relations • Professional Development • Business Law • Small Business Enterprise • Management Accounting • Business Decision Making • Marketing Planning • Quality Management • European Business Entry requirements BTEC National Certifi cate/ Diploma, AVCE or Advanced GNVQ in Business or a minimum of one A Level. Applicants without formal qualifi cations but who possess a more varied portfolio of evidence and experience may be considered via interview. Assessment Methods There is ongoing assessment by assignment for each of the subject units. The assignment may consist of written reports, presentations as well as short time constrained activities. Employment opportunities Successful completion of this programme will lead to enhanced career development such as promotion to a trainee supervisor or management position. Alternatively, you could progress to a Higher National Diploma ( HND) in Business course, Professional Certifi cate in Management Studies or a business-related degree course. I have learned so much from the course, including the theory which challenged my way of thinking and gave me knowledge where previously I had weaknesses.
