The HNC in Electrical/ Electronic Engineering is a course designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the electronic and electrical technologies used by businesses nationally and globally. This course is recognised by employers nationally and internationally and can be used to seek entry to professional associations. It is aimed at those seeking to extend their knowledge and skills already obtained from study and work experience and who wish to develop the higher level technical knowledge and competencies to meet their career aspirations and goals. The course provides advanced technical knowledge through electrical and electronic engineering principles, concepts and theory. By studying the theory behind these technologies as well as becoming competent using engineering equipment, participants will develop knowledge of how electrical and electronic engineering systems feature in every day life. The course provides the higher level technical vocational electrical and electronic engineering skills to equip you for a range of related occupations. The course is offered on a part- time basis. Units to be covered You will study the following modules: • Business Management Techniques • Engineering Science • Electrical Principles • Analytical Methods for Engineers • Electronics • Project • Project Management • Mechatronic Systems • Further Maths • PLCs Entry requirements A full level 3 qualifi cation in a technical discipline is required such as a craft occupation or BTEC National Diploma in Engineering or related subject. Those with signifi cant work experience in the industry may also be considered following interview to assess suitability for studying the course. Assessment Methods This course offers ongoing assessment. There is a mixture of written and practical assignments throughout the duration of the course which are marked by course lecturers. Employment opportunities Successful completion of the course will open up the opportunity to work as an electrical or mechanical engineer or as a supervisor or manager within the engineering sector. There are many job opportunities in the design and development of engineering maintenance systems. Successful study at this level will provide the skills, knowledge and qualifi cation to enable you to further develop your career and help meet your career aspirations in the industry.
