The HNC in Operations Engineering is recognised by employers nationally as a qualifi cation suitable for those working in higher technical, supervisory and management positions in operations engineering. Participants will study the theoretical aspects of operations engineering including engineering science to provide advanced knowledge. Study involves undertaking practical project based work in order to develop specialised engineering skills and technical competencies. You will study engineering principles as well as gaining an understanding of management and business practice in the engineering sector. You will gain an insight into the design, management and control of operations engineering processes including health and safety practices in the industry. Students will develop analytical and evaluative skills during the course and will be well equipped to undertake more senior roles in the engineering industry. The course is offered on a part- time basis. Units to be covered You will study the following fi ve core units • Business Management Techniques • Engineering Science • Analytical Methods for Engineers • Plant and Process Principles • Project In addition, you will need to choose fi ve optional units to complete the award which will enable a specialist focus to be developed within your study. Entry requirements Applicants should hold a level 3 qualifi cation such as BTEC National Certifi cate/ Diploma or a craft occupation in a relevant or related subject. Applicants with a more varied achievement profi le and who have signifi cant and relevant experience will be interviewed to assess their suitability to study on the course. Assessment Methods There is formal classroom delivery throughout the course and ongoing assessment by assignments which are marked by the course team. Employment opportunities Successful completion of the course will provide the opportunity to use your higher level skills and knowledge to work as an electrical/ mechanical/ operations engineer. This course will also open up opportunities at supervisory and management levels to support those with such aspirations. This course has been developed with employers and will greatly enhance opportunities with the engineering sector. Alternatively, you may seek to continue to study at degree level and enter a degree course in the second or third year, depending on the units studied.
