Carpentry and Joinery- Higher Level Diploma Level 2 Site Carpentry FD044AR RVC FD044AT TCC Bench Joinery FD045AR RVC FD045AT TCC This course will help you to develop the essential knowledge and skills in the carpentry and joinery trade to support career progression within the construction industry. Your course will cover Your course will enable you to develop your practical skills and take on more advanced projects and activities used within the trade such as door and window frames, roofi ng, fl ooring and fi rst and second fi xings. You will develop further skills in the use of hand tools and be introduced to power tools and their safe use. You will learn how to use access equipment and basic scaffolding and towers safely. The course will develop your practical skills and you will be able to mark, cut and assemble more complex joints used within the trade as well as use a variety of board materials. You will also gain further knowledge of the construction industry and the role of the carpenter/ joiner within it. Qualifi cation City and Guilds Carpentry and Joinery Diploma- Higher Level 2 Assessment There is ongoing assessment of both your practical projects and your written work. You will need to sit a short externally assessed test on each unit of the diploma and a fi nal external exam. Progression Choose to study a level 3 diploma in carpentry and joinery or you could progress on to a trainee position in the industry. Carpentry and Joinery- Advanced Level Diploma Level 3 This course will develop the advanced skills and knowledge you will need to enter the trade as a craftsperson. Your course will cover Your course will introduce you to a range of advanced techniques that you will need to master to become competent to work as a carpenter/ joiner. You will use a variety of materials used within the modern construction industry and take on more advanced projects such as door frames, window frames, various roof constructions as well as advanced fi rst and second fi xing skills. You will learn how to prepare and install joinery products such as door hanging, cabinets and other fi xtures as well as select and use appropriate fi xings and ironmongery. The course will also cover units in the construction and built environment so that you have a good all round knowledge of the industry, the trade and progression opportunities within it. It is suitable for those with some or no experience of joinery or construction but who have an interest in a practical subject in a wood related occupation. Your course will cover You will work in our newly built and fully equipped workshops and develop your practical skills. You will learn how to cut and assemble a range of woodworking/ furniture and cabinet making joints such as mortice and tenons, bridle joints, dovetails and halvings. During the course you will learn how to use a range of hand tools used in the industry and become familiar with the woodworking machinery used within the workshop. You will learn about timber preparation, woodturning and veneering as well as developing your drawing and design skills. The course includes underpinning knowledge as well as health and safety practices within the workshops. Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements but you must be willing to learn new practical skills and be prepared to learn the underpinning knowledge involved with the course.
