Certifi cate in Making and Installing Furniture Levels 1, 2 and 3 Level 1 - FE421FR RVC Level 2 - FE422FR RVC Level 3 - FE423FR RVC This course is aimed at those wishing to develop skills and knowledge in furniture making and will provide the specialist guidance and support to achieve high levels of craft skills. The course is offered at levels 1, 2 and 3 and success at one level can lead to further progression throughout all levels of the scheme. Your course will cover Level 1 provides an introduction to the basic techniques involved in the making of furniture. You will learn how to mark, cut and assemble various woodworking joints while developing your skills in the use of hand tools and basic power tools. You will be introduced to a variety of wood materials and gain an appreciation for their use. Throughout the course you will work on practical projects and be able to make pieces of furniture that will be used to assess your progress. The course will also provide you with the underpinning knowledge required to support your practical skills. Level 2 creates further opportunities to build upon your skills and use more advanced techniques to create furniture pieces. You will gain confi dence and skills in the use of good quality materials and become trained in the use of the workshop machine tools. You will learn about fi nishes and how to apply products that will ensure your work is presented to high standards. You will develop your design and drawing skills and be able to create designs and working drawings to underpin your work. You will use veneers in your marquetry to create decorative features and you will learn more about wood turning and the tools and skills involved. Level 3 will enable you to become confi dent and competent in the making of quality hand crafted pieces of furniture using a range of techniques and materials. You will be working to exacting standards and be able to produce furniture with design features that embellish the appearance and use of your project piece. You will be able to consider the use of soft furnishing materials within your work and you will be using a range of quality materials that will enable you to demonstrate your skills. You will become confi dent in the selection and use of wood fi nishing products and you will be able to apply these to ensure the very best appearance and fi nish to your work. Throughout your course you will work in our newly built and fully equipped workshops under the supervision and guidance of our knowledgeable and experienced course team. At each level you will develop the underpinning knowledge and ensure you work to good health and safety practices within the workshops. Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements but you must be willing to learn new practical skills at each level and be prepared to learn the underpinning knowledge involved with the course. As you progress throughout the levels, you will need to demonstrate increasing capabilities in furniture craft skills. Our course team will assess your skills and advise of the most appropriate course level. Painting and Decorating- Foundation Level Diploma Level 1 FD026AR RVC This course provides an introduction to the construction industry and will enable you to develop your painting and decorating skills prior to moving further through the diploma programme. Your course will cover You will develop your practical skills in areas such as preparing surfaces and materials ( different woods and metals), installing structural components, removing and replacing components and applying surface fi nishes. You will develop skills in various techniques and in the application of different paints, varnishes and fi nishes. The use of craft tools will enable you to develop your practical skills and you will operate in our fully equipped painting and decorating workshop. The course also develop your broader knowledge of construction and design principles and the built environment so that you can function effectively within the construction industry.
