BTEC First Diploma in Engineering Level 2 FE160VR TCC A course for people who have a keen interest in engineering. This course will develop the required knowledge and skills in order to progress to advanced courses or take up employment in the engineering sector at an entry level. Your course will cover You will study both mechanical and electrical engineering units and develop your knowledge of working practices in engineering. You will learn about engineering processes and equipment and be introduced to their control technologies. You will learn about electrical and electronic principles and gain an introduction to computer aided design ( CAD). As well as developing the knowledge to underpin your practical skills, you will study units in maths and science to support your knowledge of engineering fundamentals. You will learn how to understand and interpret engineering information before beginning to develop your knowledge of engineering materials selection and casting and moulding techniques. You will also have the opportunity to gain qualifi cations in Functional Skills and improve upon your GCSE grades. Entry requirements Four GCSEs at grade D or above. Mature students who have a more varied profi le of achievement will be considered by interview. Length of course One year Qualifi cation Successful candidates will be awarded the BTEC First Diploma in Engineering Assessment You will be continually assessed on your practical and written work, which becomes a portfolio of evidence. Some units will be assessed externally. Progression Choose to continue your studies with a course such as the National Diploma in Manufacturing or Electrical Technician Level 3. Or you could seek employment in the engineering sector. 74 make it happen Performing Engineering Operations ( PEO) Level 2 FE041MT TCC ( Mechanical Engineering) FE050MT TCC ( Fabrication and Welding) A broad- based course for people wishing to develop basic engineering knowledge before specialising in any one particular area. Your course will cover You will choose one of two routes - mechanical engineering or fabrication and welding - and learn how to work safely in an engineering environment and work with other people. If you follow the mechanical engineering route you will gain skills in bench fi tting and setting and operating machinery involving turning, milling and grinding. If you follow the fabrication and welding route you will learn how to join material by welding, cut materials using oxy- fuel gas cutting equipment and the fabrication of test pieces using engineering drawings. In addition to the practical activities and skills development in our workshops, both routes will provide the underpinning knowledge and theory required to support your advancement in engineering. You will also have the opportunity to gain qualifi cations in Functional Skills. It is important to continue improving your English and maths as well as the IT skills needed in the engineering sector. Entry requirements Ideally PEO Level 1 and/ or GCSE results from A to E Length of course One year Qualifi cation EMTA Performing Engineering Operations ( PEO Level 2) Assessment You will be continually assessed throughout your course on each individual unit. Progression Successful completion of this course will equip you to study on one of a variety of Level 3 courses including City and Guilds 2800, BTEC National Certifi cate or Diploma. There are also opportunities to seek employment in the engineering industry. BTEC National Diploma in Manufacturing Level 3 FE121MT TCC A course suitable for people wishing to apply their learning in a practical, theoretical and realistic engineering environment and would like to progress to Higher Education or a career in engineering Your course will cover You will learn the practical skills of engineering manufacturing and fabrication and the technological principles involved in engineering manufacturing including material properties and structures and business systems. You will further develop your knowledge and skills in engineering design principles and the interpretation and use of engineering drawings. In addition to engineering theory and principles, you will be involved in workshop practice and gain the skills and understanding of equipment and tooling used in the industry through your engineering project activity. You will also study units in maths and science and be working towards a Performing Engineering Operations qualifi cation. You will have the opportunity to gain qualifi cations in Functional Skills and improve your GCSE maths and English grades. This will enhance opportunities for progress on to Higher Education. Entry requirements Four GCSEs at grade C or above, including maths, science and English Or Successful completion of a BTEC First Diploma in an engineering- related subject. Length of course Two years Qualifi cation BTEC National Diploma in Manufacturing Assessment You will be continually assessed on your practical and written work, which becomes a portfolio of evidence. Some units are externally assessed. Progression Choose to study one of a variety of Higher Education courses, including HNDs and HNCs offered by Rotherham College of Arts and Technology. Or you could seek employment in the engineering sector. 75 make it happen |
