Professional Certificate in Management Studies The Professional Certificate in Management Studies is awarded by BTEC/ Edexcel and is an ideal course for those who are team leaders, newly- appointed managers or existing managers who wish to obtain a nationally recognised management qualification. The course will enable you to develop the skills and understanding to succeed in modern management and can underpin existing supervisory or management roles or enhance career progression opportunities. This course allows participants to explore the role of management and develop their own knowledge and skills in order to enhance their effectiveness in a management role. Participants will use a variety of methods and approaches to study management and will develop further insights into the concepts and practices of management, which can then be applied to their chosen sector. All units are offered at level 5 and you can study for the three- unit Award, six- unit Certificate or nine- unit Diploma. Attendance is on a part- time basis on one afternoon and evening per week over one year or one evening per week over 18 months. The duration will depend upon the number of units being studied. Duration of course Dependant upon attendance pattern, normally one to two years. Units to be covered You will study the following core units: . Personal Development . Communications at Work . Managing Change Entry requirements Preferably level 4 qualifications in a relevant subject area and at least three years' management or supervisory experience. However, all applicants are interviewed, and you may discuss alternative entry qualifications and experience that may be considered appropriate entry criteria at interview. Assessment Methods There is continuous assessment by assignments for each unit - these may consist of written reports or group and individual presentations. Ongoing feedback on progress and attainment is provided throughout the course. Employment opportunities This programme is designed to be studied whilst in employment. The programme will enable you to develop your management skills and potential. It will help create opportunities for career development and support aspirations for promotion. Many managers who successfully complete the course go on to achieve promotion or a change in their chosen career. Participants come from private and public sectors ranging from small and medium organisations to large national and multi- national operations. Successful completion can also lead to study for higher level qualifications at college or university. 31
