Degree in Ed and Training BA ( Hons) Degree in Education and Training Award of the University of Huddersfield 47 The BA ( Hons) Degree in Education and Training is designed to meet the professional development needs of teachers, trainers and managers in Further, Higher, Adult, Secondary and Primary Education and those who work in related areas such as health, careers and uniformed services. The programme combines academic training with the development of research and key transferable skills to enhance intellectual independence and personal and professional effectiveness. It is intended to meet the needs of those wishing to broaden their knowledge and understanding of education and training policy, theory and practice. The degree is particularly suitable for those wishing to progress from a Certificate in Education and those who are taking on extra responsibility or seeking career development. The course is validated by the University of Huddersfield and involves two or three years of part time study. Duration of course Ordinary Degree - Two years Honours Degree - Three years Modules to be covered Students complete 60 credits of core modules in their first year and 60 credits in the second year to be awarded the Ordinary Degree In year one you will study: . Personal and Professional Reflection and Development . Introduction to Research and Academic Writing . Current Issues in Education and Training In year two you will study: . Improving Teaching and Learning . People and Teams: Development and Management . Mentoring and Coaching in Learning and Organisational Contexts N. B., Year two modules may also be studied as ' free-standing' modules for accreditation as continuous professional development. Each module will be completed in ten weeks of study. In year three ( for honours degree only) you will study: . Empirical Study . Reflective Study Entry requirements Preferably candidates should have a Certificate in Education, or its equivalent, as well as having two years full- time teaching/ training experience, or part time equivalent. There is potential for students with five years teaching/ training experience who have not completed a Certificate in Education or equivalent qualification to be considered. Assessment Methods There is ongoing assessment by assignments and a dissertation linked to work related issues for those studying for the honours degree. There are no written examinations. Employment opportunities Successful completion of the course may enhance career progression. Further study could be undertaken at postgraduate level such as an MA in Professional Development, which has various specialist routes.
