HNC/ HND Computing The HNC and HND in Computing follows the General and Software Development routes. Both courses provide the broad key knowledge, understanding and practical skills required to pursue careers in the field of computing. Participants will be able to further their existing skills and knowledge by studying at this advanced level. The HNC and HND in computing provides students with the hands-on experience they need to enter the world of work while gaining the skills and fundamental principles of computing and computer networking. Participants can also specialise by choosing to study one of two routes - general or software development. Duration of course HND in Computing - Two Years ( full time) HNC in Computing - Two Years ( part- time) Units to be covered On both courses you will study the following mandatory units: . Computer Platforms . Networking Concepts . Programming Concepts . Database Design Concepts . Systems Analysis . Personal Skills and Development When studying the HNC in Computing you will complete 10 units including the 6 mandatory units listed above. On the HND in Computing you will complete 15 units including the 6 mandatory units listed above. The software development route offers specialist units including Java Programming and Object- Orientated Programming while the general route includes Information Systems, Networking Technologies and Internet Server Management units. The course also includes units mapped to the Microsoft Official Curriculum. The computer networking modules are based on the Cisco vendor qualification and are delivered using the College's Cisco Academy facilities. Entry requirements Both the HND and HNC in Computing have the same entry criteria, 120 UCAS tariff points in a related subject or equivalent qualifications such as BTEC National Diploma. Assessment Methods There is ongoing assessment through internally marked coursework assignments for each unit. Employment opportunities This programme provides a nationally recognised qualification that is valued by employers and so offers the potential for direct employment in various roles in the IT and computing sectors. Opportunities exist in the sector with roles in system management and installation, management of IT networks, information systems development and website and software development.
