The Foundation Degree in Integrated Engineering has been designed in consultation with a number of employers. These employers have expressed a need for engineering technicians with specialist knowledge and an appreciation of the engineering challenges across various engineering disciplines. The Foundation Degree in Integrated Engineering is for those currently working in engineering and provides the flexibility for you to work in various roles across your organisation. The programme contains a significant amount of work based learning, so you can apply your academic studies to your workplace. This ensures that the learning is relevant to both you and your employer. The programme is available on a part- time basis and has a common first year which supports Electrical, Operations, Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering. The first 18 months of the three year programme are delivered by Rotherham College of Arts and Technology with the remaining part of the programme being delivered at Sheffield Hallam University. Duration of course Three years Modules to be covered The course consists of a number of routes. There are a number of modules which are shared across all routes and a number of route specific modules. You will study the following shared modules within the first year: . Maths and Engineering Science . Engineering Principles . Investigative Project The remaining modules of the course are route specific. Entry requirements Students would typically be in employment and would be expected to possess a relevant level 3 qualification. Candidates with A Levels in relevant science subjects will be considered. Assessment methods This course involves ongoing assessment including assignment work, case studies, project work, phase tests, end tests, and examinations in some modules. The course involves work- based study ensuring that the course is relevant to both student and employer. Employment opportunities The Foundation Degree in Integrated Engineering develops your general engineering knowledge across a variety of disciplines while providing you with the specialist technical skills employers' need. On successful completion of the course you may progress your career in developing, commissioning and maintaining manufacturing process plant, designing and building mechanical or electrical components or modelling complex engineering systems to develop improved systems. There is a demand for engineers who have a sound knowledge of engineering applications across various engineering disciplines and people with the necessary techniques to develop, test and maintain them. Successful students have the opportunity to progress onto an appropriate BEng programme. |
