HNC Manufacturing The BTEC HNC in Manufacturing provides students with an advanced practical skills based course that is underpinned by the development of specialist engineering manufacturing knowledge to support their role and advancement as engineers or technicians. It is aimed at those wishing to develop technical knowledge and competencies in Engineering Manufacturing and to provide access to career development opportunities or further study at degree and professional levels. The course combines practical study through hands-on projects with academic study so that participants will gain knowledge and understanding of mechanical engineering principles and their relevance and application to the work of engineering professionals. The course will also develop your business and project management skills to equip you with understanding of business management practices in the industry. The course is offered on a part- time basis. Duration of course Two years Units to be covered You will study the following core units: . Business Management Techniques . Engineering Science . Mechanical Principles . Analytical Methods for Engineers . Engineering Design There is also a range of specialist modules available to offer focussed study. The award consists of the 5 core units above plus 5 specialist units. Entry requirements An appropriate level 3 qualification in an engineering subject such as craft occupations, BTEC National Diploma/ Certificate. Those with significant and relevant industrial experience may have their experience and suitability for the course assessed at interview. Assessment Methods There is formal classroom delivery throughout the course and continuous assessment. All work is marked by course lecturers. Feedback on progress is provided throughout the course to support attainment. Employment opportunities Successful completion of the course could lead to employment as a mechanical engineer or other related technical engineering occupations. The HNC will also enhance career opportunities and help meet aspirations to become a supervisor or manager within the mechanical engineering sector and to achieve other professional roles. Alternatively, you could continue your studies on an engineering- related degree course and gain entry to the second or third year of a degree, depending on the subjects studied on the HNC. 65
